My, what big teeth you have!

When Rachel and I got back from the Barone's we discovered that some creature had been gnawing on the threshhold of her bedroom door, which had been left closed. Pretty big teeth marks, certainly not a mouse!

Who needs legos?

Fun with forks

We recently celebrated Rachel's and Tim's birthdays at the Barones, where Natalie demonstrated her skill at connecting forks. Honestly, she'll sit at the table with a pile of forks and try to connect them into one big mass of metal. Here is one child who can really entertain herself! Here you can see her cousins Edith and Rachel getting into the act.

Syntax trees

This is the kind of stuff I've been doing in my linguistics class. We study syntax (the order of words in a sentence) by diagramming sentences into trees of noun and verb phrases. Pretty cool, but in practice quite difficult for me. It takes a while to sink in.

Lynnikins in the Classroom

Prepositional phrases lesson 3
Originally uploaded by lynnikins.
Here I am at my field placement, doing a group activity with the sophomores. They are unscrambling sentences that have lots of prepositional phrases in them. I have a great placement with a great cooperating teacher; I really lucked out. Sara is a classroom manager extraordinaire, a real professional, totally dedicated. The high school is small, and the students are friendly. Paradoxically, I cannot spend as much time as I would like to here, because I have too much schoolwork to do! Go figure!
